What is the point of a perc in a bong?

Percs in bongs are usually make the bong more expensive, this is for good reason of course; A perc on the bong allows for a cooler toke to be experienced, the smoke filters through a perc and filters, defuses, and moisturizes the smoke for a further smooth hit, Percs also can act double in changing the direction or look of the smoke inside the bong, allowing for a more interesting smoke pattern inside your piece. There is a wide variety of different types of perc's all offering different ways to enjoy your hit, most commonly is probably honeycomb, or tree Percs (honeycombs allow for additional chamber for the smoke to pass through, while a tree perc allows the smoke to go through the center and out through the tinier rods allow for diffusion of the smoke through different layers of water.
